Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV -The Wheeling Nailers announce today that the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have assigned forward Tim Verbeek to the Nailers. As per club policy terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Verbeek, 26, joins the Nailers for his sixth professional season, after playing last year with the Idaho Steelheads. In 21 games with the Steelheads the 6'0" 195 pound native of Sarnia, Ontario scored nine goals and five assists with 37 penalty minutes.
Verbeek is the brother of long time NHL player Pat Verbeek, who played 21 seasons with New Jersey, Hartford, New York, Detroit, and Dallas. In four preseason games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins he scored three goals while registering 11 penalty minutes.
"We are very fortunate to get a player like Tim on our team, he is very skilled but also plays with a lot of grit. He's the type of guy that will show up every night and play hard every shift, finishing his checks and driving hard to the net," said Nailers Head Coach Glenn Patrick. "He was the last guy sent down from Wilkes-Barre, he impressed everyone in the Penguins organization so you know that you are getting a great player".
The Wheeling Nailers will open training camp on Friday October 7th with a 10:00 AM ice session. The first home pre-season game will be on October 15th at WesBanco Arena at 7:30. Call the Nailers ticket office at 304-234-4625 or toll free at 1-877-NAIL-TIX for tickets or buy them online at www.wheelingnailers.com.
