Phantoms assign five to Titans

TRENTON, NJ (October 6, 2005) - The Trenton Titans announced on Thursday the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League (AHL) have reassigned forwards Mathieu Brunelle and Marco Caprara, defensemen Rosario Ruggeri and Stephen Wood and goaltender Martin Houle. In addition, the Titans have agreed to terms with forward Ned Havern for the 2005-06 season.

Brunelle, 22, returns to Trenton for his third stint with the Titans. A seventh round draft pick (#201 overall) of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, the third-year pro had a breakout rookie season with the Titans in 2003-04 as he tallied 26 goals, 30 assists and 100 penalty minutes in 64 games. Brunelle, a 5-11, left wing from Warwick, PQ, had 21 points (12g, 9a) in 37 games with the Trenton last year before being dealt to Dayton Bombers in exchange for Michael Schutte.

Ruggeri, 21, enjoyed a fine first year on the Titans' blueline in 2004-05 as the 6'1, 214-pounder from Montreal, PQ notched 2 goals, 14 assists and 77 penalty minutes in 49 games. Also drafted by the Flyers in the 2002 NHL Draft, the fourth-round pick (#105 overall) totaled 112 points (24G, 88A) and 301 PIM over 204 career QMJHL games with Montreal and Chicoutimi from 2000-04.

Houle, 20, begins his rookie season after a four-year career with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). Also hailing from Montreal, Quebec, Houle compiled a 65-51-9 record over 138 games (2002-05) with a 2.72 goals against average and a .913 save percentage. Houle, 5'11, 180 lbs, was selected by the Flyers in eighth round (#232 overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Wood, 24, posted 3 goals, 14 assists, and 83 penalty minutes in 42 games as a first-year pro with the Titans. The Sudbury, Massachusetts product has also appeared in 28 games with the Philadelphia Phantoms chipping in 2 assists. Now entering his second profession season, Wood played four years of collegiate hockey at Providence College. In 143 career games at Providence, he totaled 88 points (28G, 60A) and 260 PIM and led all Friars defensemen in scoring in each of his last three years.

Caprara, 21, comes to Trenton from the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) where the 5'9", 175 lbs left-winger potted 9 goals, 9 assists and 203 penalty minutes 67 games. From Woodbridge, Ontario, Caprara skated for three seasons with the Sting (2002-05) totaling 54 points (23g, 31a) and 792 penalty minutes in 183 games.

Havern, who turned 23 on Saturday, also enters his first season as a professional after four years at Boston College. The Arlington, Massachusetts native compiled 28 goals, 29 assists and 58 penalty minutes in 151 games from 2001-05. Havern, 6'1", 199 lbs, was originally, selected by the Dallas Stars in ninth round (#273 overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
