Amarillo Venom News Release
Amarillo, TX 4/16/10- The Amarillo Venom, the only undefeated team in the IFL, look to move their franchise record start to 5-0 this Sunday, April 18th at 4pm CST in the Budweiser Event Center versus the Colorado Ice.
Amarillo (4-0) squeaked past Corpus Christi last week 51-40. Four of the five first half Venom touchdowns were via the rush, as Sha-Ron Edwards and Dontrell Moore split the scores with two apiece. Wide receiver Alex Watson played his best home contest of the season, registering three grabs for 65 yards and two touchdowns (ranks second on the Venom in touchdown receptions with 9 behind DuVaughn Flagler who has 10). The Venom defense has played their best football in the second half, only allowing seven points over their last two games.
Colorado (0-5) returns to their home building for the first time since March 5th as one of four winless IFL clubs in 2010. The Ice has played their opponent close on home turf, losing by only 9 points on average (two games). Last week, the Ice finished their three-game road trip (season-high) registering 47 points against the defending IFL champion Billings Outlaws. Colorado has started a different quarterback in each of their five games this season. Sherard Ellis made his first start at quarterback for the Ice last week, going 9 of 22 for 137 yards and 3 touchdowns (4 interceptions).
Amarillo Venom Head Coach Jon Lyles on being the only undefeated team in the league and on Colorado Sunday: "We're very fortunate to be 4-0. We were tested by Corpus Christi and we'll be tested again this week by a Colorado team hungry for their first win. We can't take them lightly."
