HUNTSVILLE- The Nashville Venom (1-2) fell to the Alabama Hammers (2-1) 55-52 in a thriller in Huntsville, Alabama. After scoring 22 points in the first quarter, the Venom went scoreless in the middle quarters. Down 41-22 to start the fourth quarter, Nashville roared back to take a 52-48 lead on a returned fumble by Kenny Veal late in the fourth quarter.
With under a minute to go, Hammer QB Garrett Sutphen found WR (())) to take the lead back. The Venom moved the ball down the field. Venom kicker Christian Reed (Station Camp High School) missed the potential tying field goal as time expired to send Nashville home with their second loss of the season equaling their total for all of last year. Both Venom losses have come to Alabama.
QB Charles McCullum finished the game going 23 of 40 for 292 yards and six TDs. Jordan Jolly caught 10 passes for 120 yards and two TDs and WR Zach Ducker (Cumberland University) caught nine passes for 122 yards and three TDs.
The Venom will be back in action next game will be on the road against the only undefeated team in the PIFL the Columbus Lions on Saturday.
