Alaska Aces News Release
LAS VEGAS - Peter Ferraro and Adam Miller each enjoyed five-point nights while Kevin Lalande stopped all 20 shots he faced as Las Vegas overwhelmed Alaska, 8-0, in Game One of the National Conference semi-finals before 3,575 Friday at Orleans Arena. The Aces faced 12 days off after dispatching their first-round foe, defending Kelly Cup champion Idaho, in four straight games in the first round, while the Wranglers finally polished off pesky Stockton by winning Game Six of their first round series on Tuesday. Las Vegas beat rusty Alaska in every phase of the game, out-shooting the visitors 46-20 and scoring three times in 12 power play opportunities while holding the Aces scoreless in six chances with the man advantage.
Despite six power plays and a 16-8 bulge in shots on goal in the first period, the Wranglers had to settle for a 1-0 lead that came on a deflection by Shawn Limpright with 5:35 left in the frame. Miller scored the first of his two goals at 2:43 of the second period, but the game remained in doubt until a three-goal flurry in a span of 2:19 ended the competitive phase of the contest. Ferraro's first of his two goals came at 9:09, and after Limpright's second of the game at 11:08, Ferraro needed only another 20 seconds to push the Las Vegas margin to 5-0. A power play goal by Tyler Mosienko with 1:03 left in the period gave the Wranglers a 6-0 advantage at the break.
Miller scored unassisted after another failed Alaska power play midway through the third period, and another power play tally, a one-timer off the stick of Curtis Fraser, completed the scoring with 6:12 left in the contest. Marek Schwarz suffered his first loss in 11 starts in an Alaska sweater, finishing with 38 saves.
Tomorrow's rematch will be simulcast live on the flagship home of Aces hockey, AM 750 KFQD, and GCI Channel 1, with coverage beginning at 5:50 p.m. ADT. The series shifts back to Anchorage for Games Three and Four next Tuesday and Thursday at 7:15 p.m. Game Five if necessary, will be played at Sullivan Arena next Friday at 7:15 p.m.
Playoff tickets are on sale at the team offices at the corner of 15th and Gambell weekdays between 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. The offices also will be open tomorrow and Sunday from Noon-5:00 p.m. All playoff games, home and away, are broadcast live on AM 750 KFQD with coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to face-off. #1 Las Vegas vs. #5 Alaska: (all times AT)
