BEAUMONT, TX (Friday, April 25, 2008) - The Columbia Inferno ended an era of ECHL hockey in Beaumont, Texas tonight as they defeated the number one South Division team, Texas Wildcatters 4-1.
Peter Tsimikalis scored the first goal of the game at 12:49 of the first period as he fired a rocket shot past goaltender Anton Khudobin. Tyler Doig and Jeff Miles had the assists. At 15:53 of the second period, Mac Faulkner tapped in a pass and lifted the puck over the shoulder of Khudobin as the Inferno took a 2-0 lead. Texas answered back at 19:07 with a goal by Troy Riddle to come within one goal.
The Wildcatters applied the pressure during the third period as they outshot the Inferno 20-7 but Columbia's goaltender Todd Ford was stellar between the pipes. The Inferno added two empty net goals from Owen Fussey and Miles at 19:23 and 19:33 respectfully.
Ford remained strong through the entire 60 minutes of play as he stopped 46 of 47 shorts on goal and earned him the first star. The Inferno stopped the Texas power play for the third night in a row as they went 0-for-6 on the penalty kill and 0-18 in the last three games.
The Inferno will return home and get ready to face the South Carolina Stingrays on Sunday, April 27 at 7:05pm at North Charleston Coliseum.
