Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release
(Jupiter, FL) - The Jupiter Hammerheads handed Vero Beach 3-1 and 1-0 losses Tuesday at Roger Dean Stadium. The latter was Vero's fourth one-run loss of the season. The series concludes Wednesday morning at 10:35 AM with Blake Johnson taking the hill for the Dodgers. In the first game, Jupiter scored single runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 6th. J.T. Restko knocked in two of three runs for Jupiter, while Mattew Goyen allowed only one unearned run in five innings to pick up the win. Vero's Ryan Carter led off the 7th with a triple to make it interesting, but the Dodgers failed to score and lost 3-1. Vero scratched only two singles in the second game, yet nearly held the Hammerheads scoreless. The only Jupiter run came home in the 2nd. Grant Psomas and Steve Gendron drew back-to-back walks against Scott Elbert to start the frame. Two quick outs later Paul Witt sinlged to right. Xavier Paul threw home and the tag was applied in time... only without the ball. So Psomas was safe and that was the only run that scored for either team. Jupiter's Kurt Koehler struck out the side in the 7th for his first save of the year. Gabby Hernandez tallied the win with 5 2/3 scoreless innings that included seven strikeouts.
