VB Dodgers Blast Jupiter 16-0, Kemp finishes with seven RBI

Matt Kemp drove in 7 runs on two homers and a double to give the Vero Beach Dodgers a 16-0 win at Holman Stadium Friday night. Chin-lung Hu added a three-run blast and Xavier Paul swatted a two-run homer to help the Dodgers to their highest run total of the season. Matt Merricks earned the relief win in his first appearance of the season in Vero Beach. The win marked Vero's 10th in a row against Jupiter and puts the Dodgers at 3-0 in the Second Half. The series concludes Saturday night at 7:00 PM.

Vero jumped ahead from the start. Two-out singles from Cory Dunlap, Justin Ruggiano and Anthony Raglani scored the first run. Then Kemp doubled down the left field line, scoring two more and putting the Dodgers ahead 3-0.

The lead quickly grew in the 2nd. After singles from Mayke Cabrera and Tony Abreu, Hu knocked his home run over the left field fence for a 6-0 lead. It was Hu's sixth home run of the year. Dunlap was then hit by a pitch and Ruggiano tripled him home. One out later, Kemp delivered his first home run - a blast that sailed over the top of the scoreboard in left-center.

Not content with a 9-0 lead, the Dodgers continued their barrage on Jupiter starter Zach Lerch. Abreu and Hu singled with one out. Dunlap reached on a fielder's choice and Ruggiano singled in Abreu. Raglani brought home Dunlap with a base hit to knock Lerch out of the game. But Kemp greeted reliever Jason Iehl with his second home run, a moon shot to left that put the Dodgers ahead 14-0. Xavier Paul drilled a two-run homer in the 5th to cap the scoring.

Jonathan Figueroa, Matt Merricks, Alvis Ojeda and Orlando Rodriguez combined to shut out the Hammerheads.
