Wichita, Kan. - arenafootball2 announced today that defensive specialist Lee Vaughn was named ADT Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Green Bay Blizzard this past weekend.
Vaughn (5-11, 185, Wyoming) had nine unassisted tackles (league high for week #4), two interceptions, and five pass defenses (2nd highest in week #4. This is the first award of the season for Vaughn and the Stealth. His nine tackles ties a team record for most tackles in a game.
Vaughn's interceptions came at timely points for the Stealth. His first one came on Green Bay's first possession of the game and led to a Stealth touchdown putting them on top 14-0. His next interception came at the end of the first half stopping a Green Bay scoring drive and preserving a 28-14 halftime lead.
"We see Lee in practice everyday, so his performance last week was no surprise to us," said Stealth head coach Bob Cortese. "He is very deserving of the award."
Vaughn currently ranks 2nd in the league with nine pass defenses and he ranks 3rd in the league in tackles with 19.5. "Lee is making the most of his opportunity in af2," said Stealth defensive coordinator Mark Lazaruk. "If he continues to do the things he has been doing, there is no question that he will make a very good defensive player in the Arena Football League."
Vaughn's award marks the fourth time that a Stealth player has been named a weekly af2 award winner. Willie Grissom was named Ironman of the Week after Week 6 in 2001 and Zack Siegrist was named Co-Player of the Week after week 9. Chris Enneking was named Built Ford Tough Player of the Week after Week 15 during the 2002 season.
