Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
The Texas Valley Baseball American squad used a strong pitching effort by former Major Leaguer J.J. Trujuillo to hold the (AAA) Vaqueros Laguna scoreless through the first seven innings. However consecutive two and three run frames in the late innings put the Vaqueros on top for a 5-1 victory Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in the first game of the inaugural Mexican-American Classic. A crowd of over 2,000 witnessed the historic event.
The Vaqueros only run allowed came in the fifth inning when the American team scored on a bases loaded walk. The Americans managed just three hits during the nine inning exhibition. The Vaqueros offensive effort was capped off by a towering 3-run shot off the bat of catcher Fernando Gonzalez into the left field bullpen in the ninth inning.
The two teams will play their second of two exhibition games tomorrow night at 2:00 PM. Edinburg Coyote lefty Bric Steed is expected to take the ball for the Americans.
Tickets for this game can be purchased at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium box office or by calling Eliud Villareal of Texas Valley Baseball at 956-227-0895.
