Vancouver Stealth News Release
(Vancouver, BC - Thursday, February 6, 2014) - The National Lacrosse League has announced their monthly player awards and Vancouver Stealth Forward, Tyler Digby, has been named the Rookie of the Month for January 2014. Digby, led all rookies in goals (9), assists (10) and points (19) this month,
"He's doing what we expected," said Stealth head coach, Chris Hall.
"We knew we had a good draft choice when we got him and he has really accomplished everything we've expected of him, and I expect him to continue to grow and get even better."
The New Westminster, BC native, has been a consistent producer for the Stealth so far this year, collecting at least two points in every game. His impressive performance to start his NLL career comes as no surprise to the Stealth coaching staff,
"He's got great size, great hands, works hard and he's tough to handle in front of the net," said coach Hall.
Digby has already registered two hat tricks on the season, and has scored a goal in every game but one as well. The closest contender in rookie scoring is Digby's teammate Cody Bremner, who had 14 points (6 goals, 8 assists) this month.
Digby's most notable game to date came in his NLL debut where he scored three goals and three assists against the Colorado Mammoth, on January 4. The big 6'3 forward will be back on the turf this Saturday, when the Stealth host the Colorado Mammoth in their third meeting of the season. Game time is 7PM PST at the Langley Events Centre, doors open at 5:30PM PST.
Also, fans can get into the Pre-Game Festival beginning at 5PM PST in the LEC Fieldhouse where entry is free. Come out and see the Stealth Bombshells, along with Bomber the Fox. Food is provided by Triple O's, our DJ, from Joseph Richards Group, will be spinning live music and catch the NLL East Coast game between Edmonton and Philadelphia on the big screen.
The NLL Monthly Player Awards are determined by a vote of the league's general managers and head coaches. The January monthly award included three Week 1 games played on December 28 and one Week 6 game on January 31.
