COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT
MSE Foundation presents D.C.'s Ryan Thompkins with $10K scholarship
Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) Foundation awarded recent Bell Multicultural High School graduate Ryan Thompkins with a $10,000 scholarship, in partnership with the D.C. College Access Program (DC-CAP) in recognition of his success in both academics and athletics. Thompkins plans to attend Bowie State University and pursue a career in mechanical engineering. Valor linebacker Jimmy Gordon presented Thompkins with the check at halftime of Washington's matchup with the Atlantic City Blackjacks on Saturday, June 29.
Thompkins was active outside of the classroom, playing on the football, basketball, baseball and track teams during his time at Bell Multicultural. Off the field, Thompkins participated in the robotics club and volunteered at the local youth center during community centered events. Thompkins views football as one of the driving forces that taught him how to be successful during his youth and high school years.
MSE Foundation has worked with DC-CAP since 2014, providing $150,000 in scholarships to local student-athletes, including five girls' basketball players, five boys' basketball players, two hockey players and now three football players. Recipients must attend D.C. public or public charter schools to be eligible for the scholarship. Candidates were required to write an essay on what inspired them to play football, what lessons they learned from the sport and how those lessons will help them throughout college and as they begin their career in the workforce.
