Washington Valor News Release
Valor and Soul meet for second-consecutive week
The Valor are on the road this weekend, taking on the Philadelphia Soul on Sunday, June 10, at 4 p.m. at Wells Fargo Center. This will be the second-straight matchup between the two teams. The game will be broadcast live on Monumental Sports Network, AFL Now and Facebook Watch.
Nelson shines in Valor debut
In his first game with the Valor, newly signed quarterback Arvell Nelson put on one of the best offensive performances of the AFL season, throwing for an AFL season-high 345 yards on 25-44 passing. Nelson, a five-year AFL veteran, threw seven touchdowns, one short of the league-high this season and his own career high.
Valor comeback falls short against Soul
The Valor were defeated, 51-46, by the defending-champion Soul Thursday night at Capital One Arena, despite ending the game on a 19-7 fourth-quarter run. Nelson was named Offensive Player of the Game for his 345-yard, seven-touchdown performance.
"There was a different type of energy that (we) brought in the fourth quarter," Valor Interim Head Coach Benji McDowell said after the game. "We just need to have that every quarter - from the first play to the last."
