June 17, 2004 - United States Basketball League (USBL)
Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs News Release
Two ValleyDawg players are celebrating away from the court. Point Guard John "Mookie" Thomas and forward Marcus Fleming will not play for the âDawgs on Thursday and Friday, but it's for all the good reasons.
Thomas gained his Father's Day present a few days early on Thursday morning when he became the father of a baby boy. Thomas had missed the ValleyDawgs previous two games expecting "Little Mook" to be born. When the day-old baby had yet to be born by Wednesday, Thomas returned to the ValleyDawgs to practice. He left Thursday morning to return home to Brooklyn and spend time with his new baby.
Fleming, meanwhile, will walk down the aisle on Saturday and become a husband. Fleming becomes the 2nd ValleyDawg player in team history to get married during the season. The other player, current âDawg Frantz-Pierre-Louis, got married on July 1st, 2001. It was the day of a ValleyDawgs semifinal game in the USBL playoffs. He put his honeymoon on hold and returned to the ValleyDawgs the next day, leading Pennsylvania to its only USBL Championship in team history. Pierre-Louis was named CO-MVP of the playoffs.
Fleming hopes to return to the ValleyDawgs in time to play in Sunday's finale against Florence.
