Hancock joins ValleyDawgs

June 17, 2004 - United States Basketball League (USBL)
Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs News Release

The Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs signed 3-year NBA veteran Darrin Hancock for the stretch run of the season. Hancock will play in the final 3 games of the regular season and the post-season. Hancock was selected in the 2nd round of the 1994 NBA Draft. He played two seasons with the Charlotte Hornets and one season with the Atlanta Hawks.

He first practice with the ValleyDawgs on Wednesday, June 17th and immediately impressed. "He looked really good," assistant coach Nat Amato said. "We know he can play but I'm especially impressed by how well in shape he is. He's going to be able to help us out immediately and that's nice."

Hancock is known as one of the best players in the USBL over the past several years. Last season, he scored 18 points and grabbed 6 rebounds to help the Dodge City Legend defeat the ValleyDawgs in the USBL Championship game. Hancock was named the Playoff MVP. He was also a member of the 2003 All-USBL 1st-Team.

"It's nice to have him on our side now," ValleyDawgs radio announcer Angelo Di Carlo said. "Darrin has been the biggest obstacle the ValleyDawgs have had to face in the past few years. Now that he is on our side, the rest of the USBL better look out."

Hancock can play small forward or shooting guard and is a major threat from beyond the arc. Hancock's first game is Thursday against the Brevard Blue Ducks. The game will be played at Liberty High School in Bethlehem, PA. Tipoff is 7PM.
