Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs News Release
LEHIGH VALLEY, PENNSYLVANIA- Streaks were broken on Saturday night as the Dodge City Legend (2-2) handed the Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs (2-1) their first loss of the young USBL season, 85-78.
After dropping two close contests to the Northeast Pennsylvania Breakers (119-120) and Long Island (96-98 OT), the defending league champion Dodge City Legend ended the ValleyDawgs' two-game winning streak while also spoiling their first game within the friendly confines of the William Allen Sports Complex. In a home opener that featured special performances by the Philadelphia 76ers' dance team, the ValleyDawgs just could not seem to find the bottom of the net.
The home team came out hot, maintaining the lead for almost the entirety of the first half. Once the visiting Legend acquired the lead, they would never relinquish it. All night long, Pennsylvania found the open lanes to the bucket, but they just could not get the ball to drop. The ValleyDawgs shot an ice-cold 28.9% from the field, netting only 20-69 shots.
Claiming Player of the Game honors for the ValleyDawgs was center Davon Giles, who finished the night with a double-double. Giles hit 3-9 from the field and 5-8 from the line to put up 11 total points. He also led the team with ten rebounds. Guard Kharyi Battle had a team-high 15 points on 5-11 shooting. Guard Shaheen Holloway led the team in assists (three) and steals (two).
Taking home the Player of the Game honors for the Dodge City Legend was forward Renaldo Major. He netted 4-10 from the field and 12-14 from the charity stripe to give him a game-high 20 points. He also recorded six boards, two assists, three steals, and a blocked shot.
The ValleyDawgs hope to rebound this Wednesday, May 3, when they return to the William Allen Sports Complex to take on the Oklahoma Storm. Tip-off is set for 7:00.
