ValleyDawgs Battle Kings in USBL Championship

June 27, 2004 - United States Basketball League (USBL)
Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs News Release

The Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs will battle the Brooklyn Kings in the first all-Eastern USBL Championship since 1999 on Sunday at 5PM EST.

The ValleyDawgs are in its 3rd USBL Championship game in the past four years. Pennsylvania won the title on its home floor in Bethlehem, PA in 2001 by defeating the Dodge City Legend 100-91. Last season, they lost to the Legend in Dodge City 97-96 in a controversial overtime game.

Ironically enough, the ValleyDawgs advanced to the Championship by defeating Dodge City in the semifinals. Brooklyn beat the host Kansas to make it the USBL's final game. The host of the USBL festival has won the last three USBL titles, but that streak comes to an end this year.

The ValleyDawgs and Brooklyn have each been in the USBL for 6 seasons. While PA has boasted great success in the post-season, Brooklyn had only played in one other playoff game before this weekend. That was a 122-116 loss to Pennsylvania in last year's opening round. The Kings won 3 of the 4 games between the two teams this year.

The game will be broadcasted live in the Lehigh Valley on AM 1400 WEST, the Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs radio network. The pre-game show will begin at 4:55 PM EST with tipoff schedule for 5:05 EST. Fans can also tune to Service Electric Dial Position 17, ESPN2, to listen to the radio broadcast. Simply press the SAP button on Dial Position 17.

TV2 Sports will air the television broadcast of the championship game on Tuesday evening at 9:30PM on Service Electric dial position 2.

"The ValleyDawgs and the USBL want to thank Andy Himmelwright and Duane Long of TV2 for making the trip out to Salina to make a television broadcast possible," said ValleyDawgs Media Relations Director Angelo Di Carlo. "Their expertise in supervising the broadcast of these game will allow the great fans of the Lehigh Valley to see the championship game."

TV2 Sports will eventually air all 7 games of the tournament. They will also make the tapes available to NBATV, who will be broadcasting the games later this summer.
