Orlando Valkyries News Release
The Orlando Valkyries fell to the Grand Rapids Rise 1-3 (14-25, 25-17, 20-25, 13-25) Thursday night at Van Andel Arena.
Outside hitter Skylar Fields led the Valkyries with 13 total points (11 kills and two blocks) in the contest. Full statistics for the match can be found here .

Set 1
Grand Rapids dominated and took the first set 25-14. The Rise scored first and jumped out to a 3-0 lead. The Valkyries kicked themselves in the foot with service and hitting errors early. With the Rise leading 14-11, they would go on to score seven straight points. Grand Rapids led by as much as 11 in the set. Fields had five kills for the Valkyries, but Rise opposite hitter Emiliya Dimitrova had six kills to lead both teams in the set.
Set 2
Orlando took the lead early and never looked back, taking the second set 25-17. With Grand Rapids leading 6-5, the Valkyries scored three points in a row to take the lead. Orlando never relinquished the lead in the set, leading by as much as seven. Valkyries outside hitter Jill Gillen started the set and had three aces, two kills and one block.
Set 3
The Rise were steady and took the third set 25-20. With the two teams tied at 2-2, Grand Rapids scored three straight points to lead 5-2. The Rise never trailed for the remainder of the set and led by as much as five. Grand Rapids outside hitter Claire Chaussee led both teams with six kills in the set.
Set 4
Grand Rapids convincingly took the fourth set 25-13. The Rise scored first and jumped out to a 10-1 lead. The Valkyries made multiple substitutions to remain competitive. With Grand Rapids leading 16-9, they scored three straight points to build its lead back to 10. The Rise led as much as 12 in the set. Dimitrova led both teams with five kills in the set. She finished the match with 22 total points (19 kills, two blocks and an ace).
The Valkyries (7-11) are back in action on Sunday, April 21, against the Atlanta Vibe at 2 p.m. at Addition Financial Arena.
