Valkyries Defeat Rise in Thrilling Fashion

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Valkyries took down the Grand Rapids Rise in a 3-1(25-20, 21-25, 32-30, 27-25) victory Saturday night at Addition Financial Arena.
Outside hitter Adora Anae led the Valkyries with 22 total points (21 kills and one ace) in the contest.
Set 1
The Valkyries pulled away to close out the first set, winning 25-20. The two teams traded points up until the tail end. Tied at 18-18, Orlando went on a 7-2 run and scored the final three points in the set. Anae had four kills in the set.
Set 2
Grand Rapids took the second set 25-21. The Rise got off to a fast start and maintained momentum throughout the set. Grand Rapids biggest lead was four and its opposite hitter Emilliya Dimitrova led both teams with eight kills. Dimitrova had match-leading 30 total points (26 kills, two aces and two blocks).
Set 3
The two teams went after it in the third set with the Valkyries pulling out the win 32-30. Orlando came back from a four-point deficit. With the set tied at 6-6, the Rise would score four straight points to lead 10-6. The Valkyries would fight back and tie the set at 19-19 on a kill by outside hitter Jill Gillen. Orlando would take the lead at 23-22, and the two teams traded points to the finish. The set ended on a striking kill by Anae, who had eight in the set.
Set 4
The Valkyries won the fourth set 27-25 on a kill by Anae. With the score tied at 9-9, the Valkyries scored three straight points to lead 12-9. The Rise would tie the set at 13-13. Orlando regained the lead and maintained it up until the Rise tied the set at 22-22. However, Orlando did not waver and finished the set strong. Anae led both teams with seven kills in the set.
The Valkyries are back in action on Sunday, March 3, against the Columbus Fury at 3 p.m. at Addition Financial Arena.
