Utica Brewers Announce The Hiring Of Chris Amaya As Their New Head Coach For The 2015 Season!
Coach Chris Amaya is in his fourth season with the Citrus College Owls (Glendora, California). Amaya served has as Citrus' Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator since 2012. In his three years, Amaya has recruited 14 future All-Western States Conference selections and has placed 30 players at universities with scholarships to continue their baseball careers.
Prior to joining Citrus' staff, Amaya served 10 years in the high school ranks, including five as a Head Coach at Rancho Cucamonga (California) High School. While at the helm of Rancho Cucamonga, Amaya guided the Cougars to four CIF playoff appearances and had 22 players move on to play in college and another two get drafted (Austin Reed 2010 - 12th round, Chicago Cubs and James Zamarripa 2011 - 6th round, Seattle Mariners).
Amaya has also spent two seasons coaching in collegiate summer leagues, starting in 2008 with the North Adams Steeplecats of the New England Collegiate Summer Baseball League. Eight former members of that team went on to be drafted in the MLB Draft. In 2013, Amaya spent the summer as an assistant coach with the Utica Brewers of the Perfect Game Collegiate League, where he assisted in the development of two players who were drafted in 2014 MLB draft.
Chris was also a decorated pitcher at the high school and collegiate levels. As a high school athlete, Amaya earned All-Conference and All-Inland Valley honors twice. After high school, Amaya continued his success at Cal Poly Pomona (1999-2002) where he earned All-CCAA Conference honors in 1999 and was named the Cal Poly Pitcher of the Year in 1999 to go along with three All-CCAA Pitcher of the Week awards in 1999 & 2000.
Amaya earned his B.A in history from Cal Poly Pomona in 2002, and currently resides in Fontana, California with his wife and three sons.
