Utica Blue Sox News Release

UTICA, N.Y. - Utica Brewers Owner and Team President Butch Russo announced today that the Brewers have signed a three-year agreement with the Oneida County Sports Authority to keep the Brewers at Murname Field at Donovan Stadium in Utica. The agreement ensures that there will be baseball in the Mohawk Valley until 2017.

"We're excited to remain a part of the athletic scene in Utica for years to come," Russo said. "We feel our brand has become a premier attraction in the Mohawk Valley and has filled the baseball void left when the Utica Blue Sox left in 2001."

The Brewers are entering their fifth overall season of play in 2014 and their second in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL). The PGCBL was ranked as one of the 10 best collegiate summer baseball league by Perfect Game for 2013. Utica won its first National Championship in 2011 as a member of the National Amateur Baseball Federation (NABF).

The Brewers have already seen 13 alumni go on to be selected in the Major League Baseball (MLB) entry draft, with five coming from the 2012 team. Included in that count is relief pitcher Zach Loraine, who was selected in the 21st round (635th overall) of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. Loraine was named as the Cardinals 2013 Rookie Reliever of the Year for his performance with the Johnson City Cardinals of the Appalachian League. The Lake St. Louis, MO appeared in 24 games with the Cardinals, where he finished the season 3-1, with a 2.04 ERA and 47 strikeouts over 39.2 innings pitched.

The Brewers 2014 season kicks off on Thursday June 5 at Mohawk Valley, with the team opening up at home two days later against Watertown Rams. "Big plans are in the works for the 2014 season, our front office is dedicated to bringing a championship to Utica," Peter Faughnan, Utica Brewers General Manager, said. "With hard work and determination, it will happen and we're committed to making the Utica Brewers the main summer attraction for many years to come."
