Utah Blaze News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - The Arena Football League Office announced Utah Blaze WR SIAHA BURLEY (5-10, 176, Central Florida) as Offensive Player of the Week for Week 13. This marks the first time this season he has earned an AFL weekly award.
The 2006 Second-Team All-Arena performer recorded 14 receptions for 191 yards with four touchdowns as the Blaze (6-7) defeated the Orlando Predators (7-5), 65-62, at Amway Arena on Friday. Burley, who is a leading candidate for Offensive Player of the Year and an All-Arena selection, set a single-season record with 138 receptions in this past weekend's victory.
"Siaha has been a great player for us all season," said Blaze head coach/general manager DANNY WHITE. "He had a great game against Orlando, and I am confident that he will continue to play outstanding football."
With three games remaining in the 2007 season, Burley has his sights set on the AFL's version of the triple crown: leader in receptions (138, currently No. 1), receiving yards (1,837, currently No. 1) and receiving touchdowns (41, currently tied for No. 1). The former Central Florida standout is on pace to have 173 receptions for 2,296 yards and 51 touchdowns. This would shatter AFL's marks for single-season receptions (154, MARCUS NASH in 2004) and yards (1,982, CALVIN SCHEXNAYDER in 1998).
The Blaze will take on the JOHN ELWAY-owned Colorado Crush on Monday June 4th at EnergySolutions Arena. The game will be seen live at 8:30 p.m. MT on ESPN2 and heard on 1280 The Zone.
