Utah Blaze News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Blaze has been assigned DB Sha'reff Rashad, the team announced today. Rashad brings National Football League experience to the secondary, as he played two seasons with the New York Giants and Washington Redskins.
"Sha'reff was a player I saw at the Giants training camp a few years ago," said President & Head Coach Ron James. "He is a physical defensive back with exceptional cover skills. We are excited about seeing how his talent translates to the Arena game."
Rashad (6-1, 210, Central Florida) earned first-team All-Conference USA honors as a senior at the University of Central Florida. He was also a semifinalist for the Draddy Trophy, considered by many to be the "Academic Heisman." Rashad delivered 72 tackles with five interceptions and 10 pass breakups.
Following his collegiate career, Rashad signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent. He was placed on the active roster for the final two games after spending most of the year on the practice squad. Rashad was signed to the Redskins practice squad in 2010, where he again played in the team's final two regular season contests after being activated.
