
USL 20-Under-20 Bolsters Independence Defense

Charlotte (NC) - The Charlotte Independence professional soccer team has received 20-year-old, Cameroonian defender Hassan Ndam on loan from FC Cincinnati of Major League Soccer (MLS). FC Cincinnati reserve the right to recall Ndam for the remainder of the USL Championship season, and the loan is pending U.S. P-1 Visa approval.
The towering 6'4", defender was selected by FC Cincinnati, from New York Red Bulls in the 2018 MLS Expansion Draft, last December. In the past two seasons, Ndam was loaned to USL Championship side New York Red Bulls II where he made 58 appearances, en route to back-to-back Eastern Conference Championship appearances. In 2018, the centerback led NYRB II in all defensive categories, recording 57 interceptions, 109 clearances, 165 duels won and 94 aerial duels. A top, rising talent, Ndam was voted a USL Championship Young Player of the Year Finalist, as well as, earning a selection to the USL Championship's 20-Under-20 list. Prior to the start of the 2017 MLS season, Ndam signed with New York Red Bulls from Rainbow FC Bamenda.
The Independence continue in USL Championship action this Saturday, May 4th versus Hartford Athletic at Rentschler Field. The Independence will next play at home on Saturday, May 11th for Military Appreciation Night presented by Famous Toastery.
