OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Billy Maday

Waterloo

Maday put up six points in two games as Waterloo went 1-1. Friday he had two assists in a 5-2 win at Sioux Falls. Saturday he scored twice and assisted on two more goals in a 6-5 loss to Omaha. He had one PPG, was +1 and had seven shots on goal.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Blake Kessel

Waterloo

Kessel had four points last weekend, helping Waterloo to a 1-1 record. On Friday, he scored a goal and an assist in a 5-2 win over Sioux Falls. He had the same thing the next night, at 6-5 loss to Omaha. He had one PPG, was +1 and had 11 SOG.

Brady Hjelle

Cedar Rapids

Hjelle played the second game of a two-game set in Tri-City for the RoughRiders. He made 29 saves in a 5-1 win giving Cedar Rapids the sweep. For the week, Hjelle was 1-0- 0 with a 1.00 goals against average and a .967 save percentage.

USHL INSIDER

Freeze!: The time for making transactions has come and gone in the USHL. The league s trade deadline and player drop deeadline fell on February 6 and the roster freeze came on February 10. From now until the end of the season, USHL teams cannot make any additions or deletions, including those that come as a result of an injury, to their rosters.

Rescheduled: Inclement weather forced the cancellations of two USHL games last Tuesday. The Sioux City at Tri-City game has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 11. The Omaha at Lincoln has been rescheduled for Tuesday, February 19.

Bergman I s Back: In his tenth game since returning to Cedar Rapids from the University of Notre Dame, Robin Bergman finally got on the board, scoring twice in the RoughRiders 5-1 win over Tri-City on Saturday.

Fr iday Bloody Fr iday: Ben Blood, who was without a goal in his 11 games with Des Moines before being traded, has now scored eight times in 26 games with Indiana. Two of those goals came Friday night. Blood scored in the third period to tie the game and then scored in overtime to give Indiana a 4-3 win over Green Bay.

Another Star I n Lincoln: Lincoln added another highly-touted player to their roster at the trade deadline. Jimmy Hayes, who had been playing for the USA Hockey NTDP, came to Lincoln after Ohio, who held his playing rights, traded them to the Stars. Hayes scored in his Lincoln debut, a 4-0 win over Sioux City on Friday.

Top D : Blake Kessel scored a goal and had an assist in each game last weekend, one win and one loss for Waterloo, and stretched his lead in the race for top-scoring defenseman to seven points over Indiana s John Carlson.

I njury Free: After missing over two months with an injury, Patrick Wiercioch returned to the lineup for Omaha and had a pair of assists in Friday s win over Chicago. He scored a goal the next night, giving him a three-point weekend and showing little rust in his return.

PRO ALUMNI NEWS

Alex Goligoski (Sioux Falls) was recalled by the Pittsburgh Penguins last week and is slated to make his NHL debut.

Ryan Car ter (Green Bay) scored his first two NHL goals in Anaheims 2-1 win over New Jersey on Friday. Carter then followed that with another goal in Sunday s 3-2 win over Detroit.

Jake Moreland (Sioux City) was named the ECHL s RBC Savior of the Month for January after going 7-1-1 with a 2.08 goals against average and a shutout in nine games for the Fresno Falcons.

Joe Corvo (Omaha) was involved in a four-player trade on Monday, being shipped from Ottawa to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Bret t Engelhardt (Green Bay) was part of a trade between Detroit and Montreal and will be joining Montreal s AHL affiliate in Hamilton, Ontario. He had been playing for Detroit s AHL team, the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Mat t Car le (Omaha) was rumored to have been part of a trade between Ottawa and San Jose, but the Senators player involved wouldn t waive his no-trade clause and the trade was voided.

Ty Conklin (Green Bay) has the top save percentage in the NHL at .929 and is 14-3-3 since his recall from the AHL in December.

Teddy Purcell (Cedar Rapids) is the top-scoring rookie in the AHL with 57 points in 46 games. That mark is also good for third in the league in overall scoring. He is also third in assists with 41.

COLLEGE ALUMNI NEWS

Nate Gerbe (Omaha) scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift Boston College to a 4-3 win over Boston University in the first round of the prestigious Beanpot Tournament in Boston. The Eagles will play Harvard in the final. Gerbe is now second in the nation in scoring and receiving some serious mention for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award.

Chr is Margot t (Waterloo) scored the overtime winner as Robert Morris defeated Wayne State 4-3 on Saturday.

Eddie Del Grosso (Indiana) was named CCHA Defensive Player of the Week in helping Nebraska-Omaha take three of four points from Ohio State. Del Grosso had a goal in Friday s 3-3 tie and had the game-winning goal and an assist in Saturday s 5-2 win.

Max Pacioret ty (Sioux City) was named CCHA Rookie of the Week with a goal in Friday s 4-2 win over Miami. The next night he had his first career three-point game (2-1-3) in a 5-5 tie with the RedHawks.

Gar ret t Roe (Indiana) scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, in St. Cloud States 4-2 win over Colorado College Saturday. Roe is the top scoring freshman in the country.

Mike Taylor (Green Bay) was named ECAC Player of the Week. Taylor had a goal and an assist in the Crimson s 3-1 Beanpot semifinal win over Northeastern.

He then added an assist in a 3-2 win over Union on Friday.

Andy Miele (Chicago) had two goals and an assist in Miami s 5-5 tie with Michigan on Saturday. Miele has six points in six games since joining Miami from the Chicago Steel in the second semester.

Zac MacVoy (Ohio) scored the winning goal in Lake Superior States 3-2 win over Western Michigan on Saturday.
