Quad City Steamwheelers News Release
DAVENPORT, Iowa â University of Iowa. There's something that is heard a lot around the Quad City Steamwheelers organization. Arena Football Founder and Steamwheelers Managing Owner/Operator Jim Foster is an Iowa grad. Associate head coach Jon Roehlk helped the 1982 Iowa Hawkeyes to a Rose Bowl championship. Even seven players on the Steamwheelers roster have "Iowa" under their "college" listing.
So, it would only be more fitting if current Hawkeyes head football coach Kirk Ferentz would be on hand at The MARK of the Quad Cities when the âWheelers take on the San Diego Riptide at 7:30 p.m.
The 2002 NCAA Division I Head Coach of the Year Ferentz will be in attendance tonight to watch some of his former players in action. Included in that list of players are OL/DL Pete Traynor, OL/DL O.J. Payne and WR/LB Tony Burrier, all who were apart of the 2002 Big Ten Champion Hawkeyes team.
Ferentz will also be on hand to see the "60-minute Man" WR/DB Tim Dodge as well as OL/DL Corey Brown.
The other two former Hawks, who will not be dressed are FB/LB Derrick Davison and DS Eric Thigpen, both who are on the long-term injured reserve list and on the sidelines watching tonight's game.
