United States Rolls; Czechs Rally To Tie El Salvador
March 24, 2015 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Ontario Fury News Release
ONTARIO, CALIF. --- A crowd of 3,128 filled in Citizens Business Bank Arena - the home of the Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet - for the first two games of Group A for the World Minifootball Federation Arena Soccer World Cup on Monday night.
And they got a treat, as the host United States rolled to an entertaining 10-1 victory over Kazakhstan, after the Czech Republic scored twice in the final 2:36 to steal a tie with El Salvador in the opening game of the doubleheader.
El Salvador had built a 5-3 lead with three minutes left in the game, thanks to a hat trick from Halil Monterrosa. But the Czech Republic answered quickly as Ondrej Padera scored the final two goals - the equalizer with 1:06 remaining on a power play to force the tie.
In the nightcap, Matt Clare of the Wichita B-52s scored three times and team USA Captain Kraig Chiles had a pair of goals to lead the United States to a 10-1 victory.
But the game was tight at the start. After Clare opened the scoring 3:10 into the first, Kairat Imanalin tied it with 40 seconds remaining in the first quarter with a blast that found the upper left corner over United States goaltender Danny Waltman.
After that, Team USA's experience took over, as they kept possession and worked the ball around the Kazakh defense, scoring the game's final nine goals.
All four teams will be back in action Tuesday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena for round two of Group A pool play. The action will start at 5:30 p.m. with Kazakhstan taking on the Czech Republic. That game will be followed at 7:30 p.m. by the United States taking on El Salvador. Tickets for the game are on sale at the Citizens Business Bank Arena box office starting at $10.
