United Set to Face New York Cosmos on Monday Night
May 9, 2014 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
Minnesota United FC News Release
Minneapolis, Minn. (Friday, May 9th, 2014) -- When the 2014 Spring Season schedule was announced, many Minnesota fans circled the May 12th date against the Cosmos as a crucial one. Now United is set to take on the 2013 North American Soccer League Champion New York Cosmos at Shuart Stadium on Monday night. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CDT. Fans can watch all the action live at our Official Watch Party at Brit's Pub or online at NASLLive.com
"It's always a good to have all the eyes of the league watching a great matchup," said United captain Aaron Pitchkolan. "We are at a point in the season where the stakes are extremely high for both sides, and this game will have huge implications for the spring championship chase."
Last year, the Loons traveled to New York looking to improve on a shaky start and at the same time shut down the surging Cosmos. Instead, Minnesota compounded their woes and the Cosmos emerged as league front runners after a 1-0 win by the hosts. This year, United heads to New York on top of the NASL standings and looking to remain undefeated in 2014.
"I think it's a huge challenge for us and for the Cosmos, because they haven't scored in a few games," said United head coach Manny Lagos. "We've done really well, and we know that they're a great team, so I think the challenge for both teams sets up a really great match-up. Certainly for us, going back on the road and playing against a team that we think is very very good, no doubt it's going to be a big challenge."
Minnesota returns home May 17th to face the Fort Lauderdale Strikers at the National Sports Center Stadium in Blaine, MN. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. For tickets and information fans can call 763.4SOCCER or head to www.MNUnitedFC.com/tickets.
