United Football League Teams Announce Additional 10-Man Reserve Unsigned List
Published on April 26, 2011 under United Football League (UFL 1) News Release
JACKSONVILLE, FL - Tuesday, April 26 - The five teams of the United Football League have each released 10-man Reserve Unsigned lists, claiming the UFL rights to Veteran Street Free Agents for the 2011 season.
These players join up to 40 Protected Players who saw action for their respective teams in 2010 and were announced on April 6. The forthcoming 2011 UFL Draft and subsequent free agency period will allow teams to increase their rosters to the 70-man limit ahead of 2011 UFL training camps.
The Virginia Destroyers have the most veteran-laden reserve unsigned list. Some of the more prominent names on Virginia's list include former Pittsburgh Steelers 1,000-yard rusher WILLIE PARKER, former Miami Dolphins and University of West Virginia quarterback PAT WHITE, former Philadelphia Eagles wide receivers REGGIE BROWN and HANK BASKETT, ex-Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans cornerback JACQUES REEVES and nine-year veteran offensive tackle KEVIN SHAFFER.
The Hartford Colonials will look to bolster a number of positions with their reserve unsigned list, most notably at quarterback, where COLT BRENNAN brings record-setting numbers from his days at the University of Hawaii. Brennan and Colonials Head Coach/General Manager Jerry Glanville were together at Hawaii, when Glanville was the team's Defensive Coordinator.
"You never have enough big men," said Colonials head coach JERRY GLANVILLE. "We got three offensive linemen that when they break the huddle, they should block out the sun. We had to get a quarterback. We had to get safeties and you've got to have corners to win. We got a defensive tackle with size who can run. All in all, we tried to fix what was broken."
Other notables on Hartford's list include cornerback AHMAD CARROLL, a former first-round draft pick of the Green Bay Packers, and tackle ADAM TERRY, a former second-round draft pick of the Baltimore Ravens.
The two-time defending UFL champion Las Vegas Locomotives claimed all-purpose running back J.J. ARRINGTON, a four-year veteran with the Arizona Cardinals; former Chicago Bears defensive back KEVIN PAYNE and tight end JAMIE PETROWSKI, a productive player in 2007 for the Frankfurt Galaxy in NFL Europe.
"I'm impressed with the talent but more importantly with the person and the passion and competitiveness they all have," said head coach JIM FASSEL. "I'm very pleased with the list of players because we research players carefully and talk to them to make sure they are our kind of guys.
"We don't have to talk anyone into coming to play with us. They all want to be on this team. They all have NFL experience and will be an asset to the team."
The Sacramento Mountain Lions continue to attempt to acquire ex-Florida Tuskers, as wide receiver KEARY COLBERT and tight end KEITH HEINRICH, members of the 2009 Tuskers undefeated regular-season squad, are on their reserve unsigned list. Also on Sacramento's list is tackle TAVITA THOMPSON, a member of the Mountain Lions in 2010, and cornerback WILL POOLE, who boasts both National Football League and Canadian Football League experience.
"Our staff is excited about the additional players that we added to our reserve list," said Mountain Lions head coach DENNIS GREEN. "Seven of the players have an NFL background. Both wide receiver KEARY COLBERT and tight end KEITH HEINRICH have solid backgrounds with several NFL teams. They will bring their experience to our receiver corps and continue our upward climb to be an explosive group.
"When we add this new group of ten different position players to our original 40 protected list, we think we have a group that will bring plenty of excitement to our Mountain Lion fans."
The Omaha Nighthawks list boasts some local flavor in former Nebraska safety DANIEL BULLOCKS, who started for the Detroit Lions. Notables on Omaha's list include wide receiver CHAD JACKSON, a former second round pick of the New England Patriots; running back RYAN MOATS, formerly of the Philadelphia Eagles and Houston Texans; wide receiver CHAD LUCAS, a veteran of the NFL, NFL Europe and CFL; and center DONOVAN RAIOLA, who spent some time on the Nighthawks' active roster last fall.
"This list of players we aim to bring to Omaha encompasses many of the elements we are looking for in our roster beyond the obvious goal of them contributing on the football field," said head coach JOE MOGLIA. "We have a player with local ties, some with notable NFL experience, some who have played in other leagues similar to our, and one who is returning to the team and understands the set up here in Omaha.
"We are building an exiting group of players who have that clichd mix of youth and experience who will head into training camp ready to fight for a roster spot."
