Philadelphia Union News Release

Chester, Pa. (July 11, 2011) - Philadelphia Union (7-4-7, 28 points) head north this weekend to face the New England Revolution (3-8-7, 16 points), who are currently in last place in the Eastern Conference, on Sunday, July 17, at Gillette Stadium. The match will be broadcast live on Comcast SportsNet at 7:30 p.m. EST, with a 30-minute pregame show starting at 7:00 p.m. EST.

The Union returned to the top of the Eastern Conference after earning a scoreless draw on the road against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, July 09. With a squad missing four of Nowak's latest starters due to injury (Carlos Valdes, illness; Veljko Paunovic, left hip strain), rest (Carlos Ruiz) and trades (Jordan Harvey), the Union managed to control the match and earn a much deserved point away from PPL Park. The Revolution upset Real Salt Lake in their last Major League Soccer match, posting a 3-3 draw at Rio Tinto Stadium.

On Friday, July 15, the Union staff and the club's supporters group, the Sons of Ben, will challenge each other in the first annual River Cup at PPL Park at 6:30 p.m. EST. Tickets for the charity match will be sold for $10 apiece at the gates on gameday. All proceeds will benefit Chester City United, the City of Chester's own club soccer team.

The Union Reserves led by Coach Brendan Burke return to action when they visit New England Revolution on Monday, July 18 at 10:00 a.m. EST at New England's training fields. Philadelphia's Reserves are 1-2-1 (four points), after falling to D.C.'s reserves, 4-1, on Sunday, July 3.

Philadelphia Union and Harrisburg City Islanders announced today an exhibition match between the two squads to be played on Wednesday, August 24, at Skyline Sports Complex in Harrisburg, Pa. The match, which is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 p.m. EST, will be the Union's second visit to City Island, as they played to a 1-1 draw on July 27, 2010.
