UMASS FB Signs W/ Lions

March 4, 2020 - National Arena League (NAL) - Columbus Lions News Release

The Columbus Lions sign fullback Matt Tuleja from Massachusetts early this week. Tuleja made a splash in high school helping Xaverian High School reach and capture the 2009 MIAA Division I State championship and clinch an undefeated season. His personality and leadership earned him the Unsung Hero Award for his team. He would then take his collegiate career to Assumption College in 2011 & 2012 before transferring to UMass in 2013. Tuleja was a forced to be reckon with as his blocking and vision helped spring UMass players in the run game. The next two years he saw no action but returned to the field in 2017 as a graduate student after getting a NCAA medical hardship waiver. Graduating in 2017, coach Jason Gibson is excited about what Teluja brings to the table. "Matt is a hard nose player that brings the mentality that we are looking for this season."

The Columbus Lions open the season Friday, April 17th at home against the defending NAL Champions the Jacksonville Sharks.
