
UHL names players of the week

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Monday that Rockford IceHogs center Preston Mizzi has been named Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week and Fort Wayne Komets goaltender Kevin St. Pierre has been named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, January 28th, 2007.
Mizzi completed the week with eight points (3g, 5a) and a plus-1 rating in three games played. He tied a league season high when he dished out four assists in the 7-4 win vs. Elmira on Wednesday. On Friday, he registered three points (2g, 1a) in the second period of the 4-3 win vs. Quad City. Mizzi ended the week scoring a goal in the 5-3 loss to Flint on Saturday. The 26-year-old native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario is currently riding a seven-game point streak. He has scored eight goals during that span and registered multi-point games in four of the contests. It is the second consecutive weekly honor for Mizzi.
Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington center Greg Koehler, Chicago defenseman Rod Aldoff, Elmira right wing Frank Littlejohn, Flint left wing Jeff Zehr, Fort Wayne right wing Pascal Morency, Kalamazoo defenseman Jeff Brown, Muskegon defenseman Philippe Plante, Port Huron right wing Robert Snowball, and Quad City forward Luke Stauffacher.
St. Pierre finished the week with a 3-0-0 record, a 2.00 goals against average (GAA), a .935 save percentage (SPCT), and one shutout. He made 26 saves in the 4-3 win vs. Bloomington on Wednesday. On Friday, he stopped all 25 shots in the 3-0 win vs. Chicago. It was his league leading fourth shutout of the season and 25th of his UHL career, extending his all-time league record. St. Pierre ended the week with his fifth consecutive victory by making 35 saves in the 5-3 win vs. Muskegon on Saturday. The 31-year-old native of Sherbrooke, Quebec currently leads all UHL goaltenders in minutes played (2247:23). He ranks second in both GAA (2.22) and SPCT (.927). It is the fifth weekly honor and second consecutive award for St. Pierre this season.
