
U.S. Team Falls in Slovakia

Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-The United States Under-18 Select team fell 6-3 to Finland during their first game at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in Piestany, Slovakia Monday.
Black Hawks veteran forward Vince Hinostroza appeared in the game. Affiliate goaltender and Waterloo native Cal Petersen was Team USA's backup during the contest.
The United States team held a 3-1 lead in the opening period, led by a goal and an assist from Muskegon Lumberjacks forward Jordan Masters. Finland tied the score by the first intermission, pulling ahead during the second period, and adding two insurance goals in the third. Teuvo Teravainen had two goals for the Finns.
Team USA has two games remaining during the tournament's preliminary rounds, facing Russia on Tuesday and Slovakia on Wednesday. Last Saturday, the United States won an exhibition versus Czech Republic 5-3, including two assists from Hinostroza. Petersen played during the second half of that matchup and stopped 14 of 16 shots he faced.
The U.S. Under-18 Select team was chosen from among the nation's top young talent, including six players who were USHL regulars last season. In 2010, the United States finished second at the event.
