U.S. Open Cup Semifinal Sites Announced

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Should the New England Revolution advance to the semifinals of the 2007 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the team will host their semifinal match at Veterans Stadium in New Britain, Conn., on either Tuesday, Sept. 4, or Wednesday, Sept. 5, U.S. Soccer announced on Wednesday.

If the Revolution defeat its quarterfinal opponent - United Soccer Leagues Second Division (USL-2) side Harrisburg City Islanders - on Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Gillette Stadium, the Revs will advance to the semifinals of the U.S.' national soccer tournament - and oldest cup competition - for the first time since 2001.

In the semifinals, the Revs would meet the winner of the Richmond Kickers (USL-2)-Carolina RailHawks (USL-1) quarterfinal match, which will be played on Tuesday, Aug. 7, in Cary, N.C.

Should the Revs meet Carolina, the semifinal match would be played at Veterans Stadium on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at 7:30 p.m. Carolina plays in the United Soccer Leagues First Division.

If Richmond and New England both advance, the teams will meet in the semifinals on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 7:30 p.m. Richmond plays in the United Soccer Leagues Second Division

The Revolution has played one previous U.S. Open Cup match at Veterans Stadium, a 4-3 loss in double overtime to the Long Island Rough Riders (A-League) in the third round of the 1997 tournament.

New England (8-3-6, 30 pts.) currently sits at the top of the standings in Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference. The Revs open a four-game homestand on Thursday, Aug. 5, when they host the second-place Kansas City Wizards at 7 p.m. in a game that will be televised live nationally on ESPN2. The Revs will then face D.C. United (Sunday, Aug. 5, at 4 p.m.), Harrisburg (Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 7:30 p.m.) and the Los Angeles Galaxy (Sunday, Aug. 12, at 7 p.m.) to close the homestand.

Ticket information for the Revs' semifinal match of the U.S. Open Cup will be posted at revolutionsoccer.net when it becomes available.
