TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- The U.S. National Under-17 Team fell to the Traverse City North Stars of the North American Hockey League by a score of 4-1 tonight at the Centre Ice Arena.
Traverse City notched the contest's first three tallies to take control of the game. Kory Kaunisto led the North Stars with an assist on his team's first goal and then added two strikes of his own to help his squad build the 3-0 advantage.
National Team forward Patrick Gaul (Pittsburgh, Pa.) tried to provide the spark for a Team USA rally when he banged home a David Wohlberg (South Lyon, Mich.) feed on the power-play with 10:09 to play. Despite heavy pressure throughout the third period the National Team could not find the back of the net again and fell by a score of 4-1.
Team USA will complete its three game weekend tomorrow (Jan. 28) when it travels to Alpena (Mich.) to face the IceDiggers in an afternoon tilt (3 p.m. EST).
