U.S. Nat'l U18 Team Falls to Maine, 7-3

PORTLAND, Maine - A.J. Treais (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) tallied two goals for Team USA as the U.S. National Under-18 Team fell to the University of Maine, 7-3, here tonight at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Kevin Lynch (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) opened the game's scoring when he tapped in the rebound of Jerry D'Amigo's(Binghamton, N.Y.) shot from the right circle at 2:09 of the first period. After Dave Wilson replaced Josh Seeley in the Maine net, the Black Bears notched two goals and held the 2-1 advantage after 20 minutes.

Maine tallied three goals in the middle frame, before Treais narrowed the U.S. deficit to three just :42 into the third period. Treais took the puck at the top of the right circle, deked Wilson and scored, before tallying his second goal on the short side at 7:09 to bring the U.S. within two. Maine added two more goals in the span of 5:13 to account for the 7-3 final.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team returns to action tomorrow (Jan. 3) against Merrimack College at 7 p.m. EST.

NOTES: Chadd Cassidy, assistant coach for the U.S. National Under-18 Team, is serving as head coach in the absence of Ron Rolston, who is serving as head coach of the U.S. National Junior Team at the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship in Ottawa, Ont.
