
U.S. Nat'l U18 Team Downs Motor City, 8-3

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - A.J. Treais (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) was one of five players that finished with three points as the U.S. National Under-18 Team defeated the Motor City Machine 8-3 here tonight.
Team USA started the scoring at 9:06 of the first period when Ryan Bourque (Boxford, Mass.) fired a wrist shot from deep in the left corner that squeaked through Motor City goalie Joe Moore and into the net. The Machine quickly responded at 9:55 as Jon Bobb launched a wrist shot from the left circle past Adam Murray (Anchorage, Alaska) into the upper left corner of the goal.
Motor City took a 2-1 lead at 1:39 of the second stanza when Jared Williams tipped in a slap shot by Bobb. The U-18s tied up the score, 2-2, at 8:36 when Kevin Lynch (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) skated up the left side, crossed middle, and fired a shot past Moore into the net. Nick Mattson (Chanhassen, Minn.) and Jerry D'Amigo (Binghamton, N.Y.) recorded assists on the play. Team USA took the lead at 10:32 when Treais took a crossing pass from Kenny Ryan (Franklin Village, Mich.) and placed the puck into the open right side of the net. The lead was extended to two at 19:32 when D'Amigo took a pass from Jeremy Morin (Auburn, N.Y.) and knocked the puck into the left side.
The U.S. extended its advantage to 5-2 at 1:20 of the third frame when Morin passed the puck to Lynch, who sent it across the crease back to Morin, who tapped it into the goal. Treais notched his second goal at 7:02 on the power play to make it 6-2. Motor City capped the U.S. scoring run at 9:09 when Andrew Tate grabbed his own rebound and scored past Murray. Cam Fowler (Farmington Hills, Mich.) increased the lead to 7-3 at 10:25 as he launched a shot that trickled through Moore into the goal. John Henrion (Holden, Mass.) tallied a goal at 12:19 on a wrist shot into the upper right corner.
Murray turned aside 24 shots to earn the victory.
The U.S. National Under-18 Team returns to action on Friday (March 20) against the Alpena IceDiggers. Game time is set for 7 p.m. ET at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.
NOTES: Team USA out shot Motor City 42-27 ... A.J. Treais (17-25) and Jeremy Morin (25-17) each extended their team-leading point total to 42 apiece. Morin's 25 goals lead the team, and he is just one goal shy of tying Andy Hilbert (1997-99) for third on the NTDP's all-time scoring list. Treais leads the squad with 25 assists ... Treais (2-1), Morin (1-2), Jerry D'Amigo (1-2), Kevin Lynch (1-2) and Ryan Bourque (1-2) each recorded three points on the night ... The U.S. pulled into a tie with the Traverse City North Stars for second place in the NAHL North Division standings. The U.S. National Under-18 and Under-17 Teams have combined for a 31-15-4 record in the league.
