U.S. Nat'l U18 Team Defeats Alpena, 4-1

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Ryan Bourque (Boxford, Mass.) tallied two goals and Jack Campbell (Port Huron, Mich.) turned away 39 shots as the U.S. National Under-18 Team defeated the Alpena IceDiggers 4-1 here tonight.

The U.S. started the scoring early in the first period at 4:16 when Bourque fired a wrist shot from inside the left circle that clanked off the top left corner and into the net.

At 1:42 of the second frame, Drew Shore (Denver, Colo.) made it 2-0 on a snap shot from just inside the blue line that beat goalie Nick Graves into the lower right corner. Team USA took a three-goal lead at 11:00 when A.J. Treais (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) passed off a face-off to Bourque, who slipped the puck past Graves on the left side of the net.

Alpena was able to get on the board at 15:34 of the third stanza after Ryan Timar grabbed a loose puck in the USA zone and knuckled the puck past Campbell. Jerry D'Amigo (Binghamton, N.Y.) added an empty-net goal with 15 seconds left to ice the 4-1 victory for Team USA.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team returns to action tomorrow night against Alpena in Ann Arbor at 7 p.m. ET.

NOTES: The U.S. out shot Alpena 41-40 ... Ryan Bourque (19-24--43), A.J. Treais (17-26--43)and Jeremy Morin (Auburn, N.Y./25-18--43) are now tied for the team lead in points with 43 each. Treais notched his team-best 26th assist while Bourque improved his goal total to 19 ... Jack Campbell earned his first victory with the U.S. National Under-18 Team and his 21st overall this season. He is tied with Rick DiPietro (1997-99) and Brandon Maxwell (Winter Park, Fla./2007-present) for eighth place on the NTDP's all-time single-season wins list.
