U.S. Nat'l U17 Team Tops Pacific, 2-1, at World U17 Challenge

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. - John Gibson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) stopped 22-of-23 shots, while Rocco Grimaldi (Rossmoor, Calif.) scored what proved to be the game-wining goal as the U.S. National Under-17 Team came back to defeat Canada-Pacific, 2-1, here tonight. With the win, Team USA finished the preliminary round with a 4-0-0-0 record to finish first in Group B and will play Sweden in a semi-final Sunday at 7 p.m. EST in Iroquois Falls, Ont.

Team USA found itself trailing 1-0 coming out of the first period as Zachary Hodder snapped a shot through a screen and over Gibson's right shoulder from the right point at 9:33 for a power-play goal. Gibson made 12 stops in the opening frame.

Adam Reid (Chino Hills, Calif.) knotted the score at 15:32 of the middle stanza when he skated down the right wing two-on-one, held onto the puck, and wired a shot over the outstretched glove of goaltender Liam Liston.

In the final period, Tyler Biggs (Cincinnati, Ohio) won a left-corner battle for the puck and slid it to Grimaldi who ripped a shot into the upper-right corner of the cage, just under the cross bar to give the U.S. the 2-1 advantage.
