
U.S. National Under-18 Team Records 3-2 Win Against Russia

PIEKSAMAKI, Finland - Jordan Schroeder's (Prior Lake, Minn.) power-play goal at 19:06 of the second period proved to be the game-winning marker, as the U.S. National Under-18 Team notched a 3-2 victory over Russia here today at the 2008 Five Nations Tournament.
"It was a really strong team effort from our guys today," said John Hynes, head coach of the U.S. National Under-18 Team. "We had a plan, and all 22 players stuck to that plan. Our energy and commitment was a key part of getting this win."
Team USA struck first, just 39 seconds into the game, when Jeremy Morin (Auburn, N.Y.) registered his first of two goals in the game, unassisted.
Sergei Ostapcuk evened the score at one apiece for the Russians at the 2:49 mark of the opening period with a power-play tally. Nikita Filatov gave his team a 2-1 lead at 17:01 of the frame.
The U.S. National Under-18 Team netted the final two goals of the contest, the first of which came off the stick of Morin. Morin tied the score at 2-2 a little over mid way into the second stanza, thanks to assists from Schroeder and Ryan Grimshaw (Rochester, N.Y.). Schroeder then picked up his second point of the game to give Team USA a lead it would not relinquish for the remainder of the game. Justin Florek (Marquette, Mich.) and David Warsofsky (Marshfield, Mass.) each were credited with helpers on the goal.
Joe Cannata (Wakefield, Mass.) improved to 2-0 at the Four Nations Tournament after he turned aside 18 of the 20 shots he faced for Team USA. Alexander Pechurskiy posted 16 saves for the Russians.
The U.S. National Under-18 Team (18-17-1-4) competes in its final game of the 2008 Five Nations Tournament on Sunday (Feb. 10) against Finland at Varkaus Arena. Puck drop is set for 8 a.m. EST.
Notes: Team USA (3-0) can secure a first-place finish by picking up at least a tie in tomorrow's game vs. Finland ... The Czech Republic (2-1), Russia (2-1), Sweden (3-1) and Finland (0-3) round out the Five Nations Tournament field ... The U.S. National Under-18 Team is 5-2 in international games this year ... Jordan Schroeder (one goal, one assist) has compiled a team-best 12 points (six goals, six assists) in seven international games during the 2007-08 slate. He leads Team USA with 30 points (11-19) this season. In addition, Schroeder is pacing Team USA with six points (three goals, three assists) at the 2008 Five Nations Tournament ... David Warsofsky (one assist) has totaled six points (2-4) in six international games in the 2007-08 campaign. He continues to lead the Team USA defensive corps with 25 points (9-16) this year. Warsofsky has notched four points (one goal, three assists) at the Five Nations Tournament ... Jeremy Morin has recorded 10 points (eight goals, two assists), including five power-play goals, during seven games with the U.S. National Under-18 Team this year. He has amassed a team-high four goals at the Five Nations Tournament ...
