North Iowa Outlaws News Release

After struggling last weekend against the Fargo-Moorhead Jets, the North Iowa Outlaws entered Friday's match-up with the Southern Minnesota Express determined to turn the tables, and get something going against a team that has been the thorn in their side. Friday night was different as the Outlaws and Express took a 1-1 tie to the third period where the Outlaws erupted for three goals in front of 1,100 fans to pick up a huge win. Led by a two-goal effort from Shea Walters, helped by a multi assist night from Tyler Romasco and a stellar performance from Robby Moss, the Outlaws took a 4-1 win in the opener of the three game series this weekend.

The Outlaws came out firing in the first period out shooting the Express 18 - 7 and struck first as Shea Walters knocked home a power play goal to give the Outlaws the 1-0 lead, however the Express would tie the score later in the first. In the second period, the shot tally was closer as the Express took a 16-10 shot advantage in the second period as neither team found the scoreboard setting the scene for an exciting third period.

In the final frame the Outlaws took the lead just under seven minutes into the contest as Tyler Romasco won the face-off to Alex Carlson who beat Scott Pederson for the 2-1 lead. A little later in the period it was Romasco again helped on another Outlaws goal, this time firing a shot that rebounded directly to Max Mobley. The Phoenix native pulled the puck around Pederson and into the back of the net for some insurance. In a last ditched effort, the Express pulled Pederson for the extra attacker but the Outlaws defense denied any comeback and Shea Walters finished things off with an empty net goal to make the final 4-1.

Robby Moss was strong in the net for the Outlaws, picking up his 21st win of the season, stopping 29 of 30 shots he faced. The net minder for Chesterfield, St Louis, MO is the top ranked goaltender in the league with a goals against average of just over 2, and a save percentage of .936%. Saturday and Sunday the Outlaws continue their charge in the Central Division with two more pivotal games against the Express in Owatonna.
