
U.S. National Under-18 Team Finishes NAHL Weekend Sweep

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The U.S. National Under-18 Team dropped the Alpena IceDiggers, 4-1, this afternoon in North American Hockey League action at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.
In a back-and-forth opening period Colin Wilson (Greenwich, Conn.) gave Team USA a 1-0 lead late in the period on his 23rd goal of the season.
Team USA added three more tallies in the second period to jump out the a 4-0 advantage. U.S. forward Justin Vaive (Buffalo, N.Y.) notched his third goal in as many games 2:15 into the second period on a wristshot that snuck past Alpena netminder Mike Jarboe. Jimmy Hayes (Dorchester, Mass.) scored a power-play goal 11:09 into the second period, followed by defenseman Ryan Grimshaw's (Rochester, N.Y.) first career tally with the U.S. National Under-18 Team 31 seconds later. Alpena scored 2:15 later in the period on a Justin Stadler goal to make it a 4-1 contest.
Jarboe and U.S. netminder Brad Phillips (Farmington Hills, Mich.) shut the door in the final frame to keep a 4-1 game. Phillips made 33 saves today to earn his 13th victory of the season.
"We played a good weekend of hockey,"said U.S. Head Coach Ron Rolston (Fenton, Mich.). "Played three games in three days is tough, but we worked hard today and earned a good win."
NOTES: The U.S. National Under-18 Team is now 12-0-1 versus NAHL competition this season ... The U.S. National Under-18 Team has only allowed 20 goals in 13 NAHL contests this season.
