U.S. National Under-18 Team Defeats Czech Republic

HAMEENLINNA, Finland - The U.S. Men's National Under-18 Team defeated the Czech Republic, 3-0 to win its fourth and final game of the 2017 Under-18 Five Nations Tournament.

After a scoreless first period, the U18s jumped in the lead at 11:36 of the second when Tyler Weiss (Raleigh, N.C.) sent a shot in from the top of the left faceoff dot on the power play. Jack DeBoer (Madison, N.J.) was credited the lone assist.

With 2:39 remaining in the frame, and shorthanded 5-on-3, Trevor Janicke (Maple Grove, Minn.) corralled a pass from K'Andre Miller (Minnetonka, Minn.) and poked it past Czech Republic goaltender Lukas Dostal from the doorstep.

Patrick Giles (Chevy Chase, Md.) netted the third USA goal with three minutes left in the game, after sending the puck into the net over Dostal's shoulder. Jake Pivonka (Naperville, Ill.) recorded the assist on the goal.

U.S. goaltender Drew DeRidder (Fenton, Mich.) recorded 23 saves in the win.

Oliver Wahlstom (Quincy, Mass.) was named the U.S. Player of the Game.

With the win, Team USA finished the tournament tied in third place with the Czech Republic finishing with five points and a 1-0-2-1 record (W-OW-OTL-L).
