
U.S. National Under-18 Team Defeats Babson College, 4-3, in OT

BABSON PARK, Mass. - A.J. Treais (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) tallied at the 2:09 mark of overtime to propel the U.S. National Under-18 Team to a 4-3 victory over Babson College here today in its first game at the Babson College Invitational Tournament.
With the win, Team USA advanced to the championship game where it will meet Manhattanville College tomorrow at 4 p.m. ET.
Babson jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 20 minutes. Chris Hoban tallied the game's first goal with a shot into the upper left corner at 6:13 of the opening stanza. Jason Schneider doubled the Beavers' lead with a short-handed marker after he tapped a rebound past netminder Adam Murray (Anchorage, Alaska) at 14:51.
In the second period, Team USA cut the deficit in half when Ryan Bourque (Boxford, Mass.) found Chris McCarthy (Collegeville, Pa.) who fired a shot over goaltender Skylar Nipps at 2:31. Murray turned aside all eight shots that he faced in the middle frame.
Babson regained its two-goal advantage after Shane Farrell's wrist shot found the back of the net at 6:30 in the third stanza. Team USA answered back with two goals in a 17-second span starting with Kevin Lynch's (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) tally at 7:53. The goal came after Lynch converted on a Kyle Palmieri (Montvale, N.J.) feed. Kenny Ryan (Franklin Village, Mich.) knotted the score, 3-3, at 8:14 after he intercepted a pass, streaked in on the net, and fired a backhanded shot past Nipps.
After neither team could find the go-ahead goal in regulation, the game went to overtime. Treais took a feed from Bourque, then fired a shot that bounced off Nipps and inside the the right post to give Team USA the 4-3 win.
Murray made 24 saves en route to the win.
NOTES: The U.S. National Under-18 Team improved to 2-0-0 against NCAA Division III competition this season ... Team USA out shot Babson by a 36-27 margin ... Ryan Bourque recorded two points (0-2) to pace Team USA.
