U.S. National Under-17 Team Wins Tournament Exhibition

PIESTANY, Slovakia - In exhibition action to open the 2006 Vlad Dzurilla Under-18 Tournament, the U.S. National Under-17 Team topped host Slovakia, 8-2 this afternoon.

The offensive outburst from Team USA was led by five power-play goals. Newcomer Carter Camper (Rocky River, Ohio) led the way offensively for Team USA with four points (2-2-4).

To open the game, Teddy Ruth (Naperville, Ill.) scored on the power-play from Camper and fellow addition Barry Almeida (Springfield, Mass.). USA defenseman Cade Fairchild (Duluth, Minn.) tallied next on a play from Matt Rust (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) and Ryan Hayes (Syracuse, N.Y.). Camper scored third for USA at even-strength from defenseman Doug Leaverton (Mayfield, Ohio) and Hayes.

USA forward John Albert (Concord, Ohio) tallied the fourth goal with the four-on-three advantage on a feed from Colby Cohen (Radnor, Pa.) and Fairchild. Camper sniped his second of the game for Team USA from Almeida and Cohen with the five-on-three advantage for fifth U.S. goal.

The sixth USA marker came from C.J. Severyn (Beaver, Pa.) on the power-play from Leaverton and Ryan Schnell (Cary, Ill.). USA defenseman Ian Cole (Ann Arbor, Mich.) notched a power-play goal from Ruth and Brennan Vargas (Coon Rapids, Minn.) for USA's seventh goal. The final USA tally came from Hayes with an assist to Camper.

In goal for Team USA, Brad Phillips (Farmington Hills, Mich.) and Josh Unice (Toledo, Ohio) both played well, only allowing a goal apiece.
