
U.S. National Under-17 Team Opens Beantown Classic With 3-1 Victory

EXETER, N.H. - Kyle Palmieri (Montvale, N.J.) pushed his scoring streak to three games and his third-period tally provided a key insurance goal as the U.S. National Under-17 Team skated past the Boston Jr. Bruins, 3-1, Friday afternoon at the Exeter Ice House in the Beantown Fall Classic.
"I thought we did a great job of battling against a very physical and hard-working team," said Ron Rolson, head coach of the U.S. National Under-17 Team. "We held our composure and that perserevance allowed us to to win a close game on the road."
Kevin Lynch (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) gave Team USA a 1-0 lead in the second period with his third goal of the season off an assist from Cam Fowler (Farmington Hills, Mich.).
The Bruins tied the game up at 1-1 less than 40 seconds later. Team USA went up 2-1 towards the end of the period, as David Valek (Orem, Utah) chipped in what proved to be his first game-winner of the season. Kenny Ryan (Franklin Village, Mich.) and Bjorn Krupp (Atlanta, Ga.) each assisted on Valek's goal.
Palmieri picked up his team-leading sixth goal of the campaign midway through the final stanza to give Team USA a two-goal cushion. Drew Shore (Denver, Colo.) contributed the lone assist on the play, which represented his club-high sixth helper of the year.
Goaltender Adam Murray (Anchorage, Alaska) picked up his second-straight win between the pipes and saw his overall record move to 2-1-0.
"Adam had a great game for us in net," said Rolston. "He made some really big saves, especially late in the game when the Bruins were putting some extra pressure on us."
The U.S. National Under-17 Team (5-3) concludes play in the Beantown Fall Classic on Saturday (Oct. 20) with a game against the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs at 3:10 p.m. EST.
NOTES: Kyle Palmieri (6-4--10) and Drew Shore (4-6--10) continue to lead Team USA's scoring attack after each player tallied a point today ... The assist by Cam Fowler was his first point of the year ... David Valek picked up his third lamplighter of the year ...
