U.S. National Under-17 Team Falls, 3-2, to Mahoning Valley

BOARDMAN, Ohio - The U.S. National Under-17 Team received an even strength-goal from A.J. Treais (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) and a power-play marker from Grant Scott (Sewickley, Pa.), but was defeated, 3-2, by the Mahoning Valley Phantoms at the Boardman Ice Zone Friday night.

Team USA started the evening's scoring at the 13:21 mark of the first period when Treais netted his 12th goal of the season. Joe Marciano (Alta Loma, Calif.) handed out the lone assist on the play.

Mahoning Valley forward Miles Winter tied the game up at 5:46 of the second stanza. The U.S. National Under-17 Team regained the lead with four minutes left in the period as Scott lit up the scoreboard, thanks a helper from Cam Fowler (Farmington Hills, Mich.).

Johnny Meo knotted the score at 2-2 for the Phantoms at the 7:20 mark of the final frame, while his team held a man advantage. Winter secured his second goal of the night, and what proved to be the game-winning tally, at 12:50 of the third period.

Team USA goaltender Nick Maricic (Alta Loma, Calif.) stopped 34 of the 37 shots he faced, while Jordan Tibbett turned aside 34 of the 36 shots he saw for Mahoning Valley.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team (30-30-2) plays its final game of the 2007-08 regular season tomorrow night when it completes its weekend series with the Phantoms. Opening faceoff is set for 7:15 p.m. EDT.

Notes: Grant Scott netted his first power-play goal with the U.S. Nationa Under-17 Team this season ... Joe Marciano doled out his first assist as a member of the U.S. National Under-17 Team this year.
