Milwaukee Wave News Release

(Milwaukee, WI) The U.S. National Futsal Team coached by Wave Coach Keith Tozer will host the Honduras National Team in a two-game CONCACAF Tournament Qualifier May 18 and May 20 at U.S. Cellular Arena. The winner of the total goal series will advance to the eight-team CONCACAF Futsal Championship in Costa Rica in late July to determine CONCACAF's two representatives to the FIFA Futsal World Championship, which will be held in Chinese Taipei Nov. 22 – Dec. 12, 2004.

Futsal, the international version of indoor soccer, is a derivative of the outdoor game played with five players on each side (four field players and a goalkeeper) utilizing a limited-bounce ball on an open (wall-less) court slightly bigger than a basketball court.

The Tozer led U.S. squad will arrive in Milwaukee on May 13th to begin training for the competition. Game One of the two-leg series is set for Tuesday, May 18, 7 PM at U.S. Cellular Arena, with Game Two scheduled for Thursday, May 20, 7 PM at U.S. Cellular Arena. The U.S. team will be attempting to qualify for its third consecutive CONCACAF tournament following appearances in 1996 and 2000.

Five members of the Wave are among the seventeen currently listed on the U.S. training camp roster, which, with the exception of Dewayne Gilpatrick is composed exclusively of Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) players. Forwards Greg Howes and Johnny Torres, along with defenders Lovelace Ackah and Pat White and goalkeeper Nick Vorberg will represent Milwaukee. Four members of the two-time champion Baltimore Blast (Giuliano Celenza, Scott Hileman, Danny Kelly, and Lee Tschantret) are also expected to participate. Teams are limited to just 12 players for a particular match.

"I'm very excited about this team we've put together as well as the opportunity for the U.S. to host a CONCACAF qualifier for the first time," said Tozer, who has been involved with the U.S. Futsal program since 1996.

Tickets for the games on May 18 and May 20 are available at the Wave Office, located between the U.S. Cellular Arena and the Milwaukee Theater at 510 W. Kilbourn Ave., Suite B, in downtown Milwaukee. Call 414-224-WAVE (9283) for more information.
