U-17s sweep Ice Dogs with 5-0 win

FAIRBANKS, ALASKA –The U.S. National Under-17 Team won Monday night (April 4), 5-0, in game three of the first round of their playoff series against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.

The Under-17s took a commanding 3-0 lead after one period of play. Ryan Flynn (Lino Lakes, Minn.) tallied on the power play while a Zach MacVoy goal would follow. Chris Atkinson (Sparta, N.J.) ended the U.S. scoring in the first period on the power play.

The second period saw Patrick Kane (Buffalo, N.Y.) extend the U.S. lead to 4-0.

At the 16:42 mark of the third period, Ryan Flynn would score his second and final goal of the evening for the U.S. as they went on to win, 5-0.

U.S. goaltender Brett Bennett (Williamsville, N.Y.) stopped 38 of 38 shots for the shutout.

The U.S. Under-17s await the winner of the Soo Indians, Youngstown Phantoms series. The Soo lead, 2-0.
