U-16 Six Nations Team Still Unbeaten
September 21, 2012 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release
The undefeated Six Nations U-16 team enters cross-over games this Saturday. At 7-0, Six Nations stands atop the West Division after four dominating victories last weekend as it outscored its opponents 58-10.
"We are heading into the playoffs unbeaten so it's so far, so good," said Coach Jason Johnson.
The U-16 Boys team is coached by the Knighthawks Assistant Coach, along with Knighthawks and National Lacrosse League stars Mike Accursi and Matt Vinc. They are coaching the team because of the Knighthawks' partnership with Arrow Express Sports to teach lacrosse to the Six Nations community youth. As a result, the Knighthawks are training kids at summer and winter camps, and on Six Nations' box and field teams.
"We have a bunch of really talented kids, eager to learn, so it makes it a great team to coach," said Accursi. "They just want to learn and get better. We have them firing on all cylinders right now. So it's exciting."
The kids are learning from three members of the 2012 National Lacrosse League Championship team. For Accursi it was his third Cup, while Vinc and Johnson raised the Champion's Cup for the first time in their careers. Johnson also won a bronze medal this summer as an assistant coach with the U-19 Iroquois Nationals at the 2012 FIL World Lacrosse Championships.
On Saturday, Six Nations begins its schedule against East Division teams in St. Catharines with a 10:30 a.m. contest against Whitby (3-2-1). At 1:30 p.m., the top two teams will face off as Six Nations takes on East Division leading Newmarket (5-0-1). The following Saturday, September 29th, the games will shift to Brampton with Six Nations opening up against Mimico at noon and then finishing the day with a 3:00 p.m. showdown with Toronto.
Six Nations will then travel to the Provincials "A" Playoffs in Oakville the weekend of Saturday, October 6th to Sunday, October 7th.
